![]() ![]() If the next waypoint is the destination, it will totally screw up my planned route. I have found that it's important to turn off auto-recalculation on the Nav, otherwise it will recalculate on import, and whenever (not if-ever!) I miss a turn, and it will take me to my next waypoint using whatever routing options I've set. When I re-create the route in Base Camp, rather than clutter it and the nav with intermediate waypoints, I just create the route with only two waypoints, start and end. Google Maps is easier for rough planning because it doesn't need exact waypoints, "Cincinnati to Wheeling" is enough to start with. Pretty seamless.Ĭlick to expand. My process exactly. #Furkot road tripper free#So the free version (at least when I got it a few years ago) opened the entire world map. And if you need additional features then you can subscribe. I do think it’s free so everyone can try it. Once you get the hang of it I’ve not found anything I like better. What time I want to leave on the morning. Put in 10 minute or 15 minute stops for gas etc. ![]() ![]() But for that initial major route plan, stops, how long at each stop, what order for scenic or fast or mix, or weather etc I use InRoute. Also the Garmin can use FM signals for traffic and weather. #Furkot road tripper update#I always update maps before every major trip or at least twice a year. If no cell service and no pre loaded route, my recommendation is Garmin. That’s why I think having a Garmin which doesn’t rely on cell service helps tremendously on a trip. I have had times where my phone decided to reset in the middle of a trip or run out of battery or has decided it’s too hot to work. That said, I would never do a road trip without a Garmin. With a final check on TripAdvisor on the stop I identified in roadtripper.Ĭlick to expand.Since iPhone (most smart phones) still can use GPS without cell service, lack of it is not an issue if I have previously set up and saved a route on the app (locally on my phone). I find that it consistently shows me new stuff on my routes that I didn’t know about or had considered seeing. You can also send gpx files so after I do my route (which is set by dates and start times etc) I send it to base camp and then also out it on the garmin bmw nav.įor things to do I use Roadtripper. You can send your next waypoint to Waze from the app. It does voice guidance but I normally switch to Waze for that with InRoute in the background. It charts our highs and lows for weather, altitude, etc. Maybe I want a warm Route in winter and cool in summer. Pretty user friendly all things considered. It lets you look for anything any set miles apart or hours apart. I find that it’s worth it given how many rides I plan. With the subscription you can do unlimited waypoints etc. I have also driven in 30 different countries. I put about 25K miles a year on my bikes. I have done a road trip in every state except Alaska, Iowa and Wisconsin. ![]()
